In this video-interview Ida Rönnlund, Four Ferries Chief Operating Officer, introduces her startup and the EdTech market in Finland.
Hi, my name is Ida. I come from a company called Four Ferries and I am its Chief Operating Officer. Our company offers solutions for Mathematics education: especially, what we have is an automatic checker that will check the students’ solutions step by step. This means that you can more or less right any assignment you want to solve and our automatic checker will check each step there. And this is for middle school Math up to university level.
Why did you found your startup?
I am from Finland and the reason that the founders founded our company is that we see that we really need to improve math education: it’s going the wrong way. So, check our product and, please, help improve Math worldwide!
What is the status of the EdTech market in your country?
In Finland the status of the EdTech market is very in the beginning, I’d say. Teachers are eager to try new products and they are also at the same time very tired of the solutions that they have tried, because many of them have not been very good. So, we have a mix of people wanting to use EdTech and also of people being very resistant to start using it. The EdTech market is in the very early stages in Finland so, if you have products that are well developed, you have a good chance of making it here.
Are you enjoying xEdu’s acceleration program?
I’m part of the xEdu’s accelerator program and that’s really cool. I find it a great opportunity to learn to know all these companies like Betwyll and the new companies that are here in the accelerator. It’s nice to learn from others and it’s nice to get to know other markets, also.

Four Ferries
Chief Operating Officer
I have been managing acceleration programs and our big EdTech community at xEdu for the past two years and organized various EdTech events in Helsinki, Finland. Before that, I worked with university students supporting them in establishing their own businesses and taught languages. My background is both in pedagogy and business, and I am excited to combine this knowledge in my current work.
